Camming is easy, right?!
All you have to do is be personable, flash your audience, and flirt with clients who want to see you do a specific act for the right price.
Yeah, right!
What might seem like a simple profession is laced with dangers, difficulties and some truly bizarre rules.
Each major platform sets its own rules, some of which make sense and some of which... don’t.
Next up, we'll be taking you through fifteen of the most confusing rules we found that models have to obey.
Breaking these rules can result in a ban, which takes a huge chunk out of a model’s expected income. Trust us, you don't want to get this wrong!
We start with Fido.
Some cam sites allow your pets to be in the room so long as there’s no direct interaction (gee, we wonder why...).
Direct interaction also includes general petting and belly rubs, which could get you banned if you’re using the wrong platform. StripChat only allows for pets if the model isn’t naked.
Chaturbate, My Free Cams, and Cam4 all allow pets on screen with no discrimination. However, you shouldn’t interact with your pets if you can help it. All it takes is a single report for your account to get banned from a cam site.
Streamate and CamSoda are two of the major platforms that forbid visible pets. BongaCams will even throw in a $25 fine if your pooch swaggers into the room when you have a stream going. Think we're kidding? Just check the long litany of #CamGirlProblems on Reddit!
With the exception of Cam4, which allows for non-realistic props, guns are not allowed to be on your stream. Unfortunately, this prevents you from role-playing as a bank robber, but handcuffs aren’t outlawed. Kitchen & utility knives are a different story, depending on the site you choose.
Chaturbate, My Free Cams, CamSoda, and Cherry.tv prohibit guns and knives from being used as props during a live stream. However, models can technically use knives for a practical purpose (and who knows what that means?) on StripChat.
Streamate has a rule that says knives can only be used for Halloween pumpkin carving -- pragmatism at its finest. Unfortunately, knife play isn’t exactly allowed. The definition of “practical” changes from platform to platform, but there's a simple solution folks: don't stream live while yielding a potentially lethal weapon.
You know that Bad Dragon dildo that you’d never believe fits inside until it’s busy rearranging your internal organs? If it’s animal-themed (ahem, horse cock), using it on a live-stream could get you banned from any number of sites. Luckily, there’s a convenient workaround: fantasy dildos are totally fine to use.
There are quite a few sites with no hard-and-fast rule concerning the usage of animal dildos.
Most freemium sites don’t care about your taboo fantasies. Unfortunately, some of the bigger-name webcam sites do.
For example, Chaturbate prohibits animal-themed dildos. However, you can ask their customer support team if it’s okay to use a fantasy dildo. Most of the time, they’ll say “yes” if you’re polite. Streamate, Amateur.tv, Cam4, and Cherry.tv implement the same rule concerning fantasy toys.
Semantics really do matter when your livelihood is on the line, especially because there’s not a huge difference between “animal” and “fantasy” dildos to begin with. It’s 2024, and ovipositors (dildos that lay eggs) are permitted by Chaturbate, Stripchat and XCams.
You’ll need to check with Streamate support before pulling out your brand-new ovipositor on a stream, and CamSoda technically allows for fantasy ovipositors. However, insiders say it’s not worth the risk of getting banned.
Even more bizarrely, Amateur.tv and Cherry.tv allow ovipositors that don’t look as if they came from a “real-life animal.” So long as beastiality isn’t your schtick, you should be fine.
Apparently, “my body, my choice” doesn’t apply when you’re making a safe & consensual choice to repurpose household objects (like cucumbers, bottles, ginger root, and other phallic items) for your audience. Chaturbate, Joystick.tv, & My Free Cams prohibit the use of non sex-toy objects.
Stripchat gives models the agency to express their sexuality without boundaries so long as it’s all done safely. Streamate and CamSoda put a damper on the fun with restrictions of their own, but ManyVids Live & XCamsModels permit models to pleasure themselves however they want.
DD/LG (daddy dom/little girl) and age-play are controversial topics on a good day. It’s not a big surprise that most cam sites don’t want the potential responsibility of enabling illegal activities.
Of course, there are no interactions allowed with actual minors under any circumstances. Even private shows are heavily-scrutinized by mods, but Stripchat and Streamate allow models and clients to use the honorifics “Mommy” and “Daddy” during a one-on-one video call/text session.
All other major cam sites strictly prohibit any sort of ageplay, so it’s best to avoid this one, yeah? On that note, Stripchat and Streamate also accommodate “step-fantasies.” If you’re into the real thing, ManyVids Live is the only major platform that permits 18+ incest play with direct relations.
You might not be in the Sahara Desert, but there are reasons to drink your own pee aside from severe dehydration. For starters, it can be a very lucrative fetish if you don’t mind enjoying the occasional golden shower. Squeamish models can mix water and yellow food coloring, too.
Notably, Cam4 allows models to drink urine during a live-stream so long as it’s being recycled. It doesn’t seem like they’d have any way to determine whose pee you’re chugging down, but they could simply ban you from their cam site if they suspect that any of their rules are being broken.
Drinking pee isn’t for the faint of heart (we've been told), so most models won’t ever have to worry about this rule.
Every major webcam platform is terrified of erotic asphyxiation. Aside from the fact that you’ll end up on LiveLeak should things go wrong, no company wants to deal with the liability of someone committing accidental suicide.
Phrendly, ePlay, and XLoveCam are the only three recognizable cam sites that haven’t issued a statement in either direction, but we highly doubt they'd be accepting it either.
On the bright side, most forms of BDSM (such as 4-limb bondage, shibari, and light impact play) are permitted by the major players. Just remember to keep needles, bruises and blood off the screen. These are a big no-no.
Most major cam sites permit “multi-streaming,” which allows models to generate more income from broadcasting one show to several websites at once. However, understanding the ins and outs of each platform’s bannable offenses can turn multi-streaming into a totally useless quirk.
Oftentimes, cam sites have wildly different rules considering what’s permissible to show on any stream. For example, Streamate’s strict nudity rule (above the waist allowed, below the waist is only for private shows) directly conflicts with the less restrictive approach of Chaturbate & MFC.
Another way cam sites tend to “filter” which companies they work with is by implementing strict rules surrounding models’ promotion of their social media channels. Chaturbate allows models to advertise all their paid socials and monetize their personal accounts so long as they don’t link to another cam site. Joystick.tv and My Free Cams follow the same rulebook. Stripchat narrows your options down to posting My.Club, Fancentro, Faphouse, XHamster & your Amazon wishlist.
Streamate prohibits outside advertising in all its forms, and CamSoda is similarly restrictive. You can only advertise your FanSoda, Instagram, Twitter (X), paid Snapchat, and other links allowed specifically for certain live streams. Be sure to contact CamSoda’s team to solicit their approval.
XCamsModels is another webcam platform that doesn’t like free market competition, but Cam4 is more forgiving so long as you’re not blatantly posting links to other cam sites. Additionally, link overlays (that watermark you see on the screen) are only banned on ManyVids Live specifically.
“Bukkake” is a self-explanatory word that references the immediate aftermath of a ten-man train, but “goatse” is less popular nowadays. Back in the earlier days of the Internet (think some time around the late 1990s), Goatse.cx (sound it out) was a shock site that became an online meme.
The homepage showed a close-up photo of a man stretching open his anus with both hands to expose his rectum, which is lit by the camera flash. The original IMG file was coined “hello.jpg” and removed from the website in January 2004, but mirror websites quickly filled the vacuum.
Several major cam platforms prohibit using the words “bukkake”, “goatse,” and even less controversial topics like “hypnosis” and “enema play.” Chaturbate, CamSoda and Amateur.tv will ban your account if you’re caught using the first two phrases in a chat message.
Interestingly enough, Chaturbate and Amateur.tv have specific rules prohibiting models from wearing “service uniforms” during their live stream. You can’t role-play as a priest, a nun or a commanding officer. There’s no rhyme or reason to this one, but regulations are regulations.
My Free Cams (MFC) is the only cam site with a specific rule prohibiting men and transfemme creators from being in the same room with an AFAB (assigned female at birth) model. This is a shame for marginalized groups, but cisgender women are pandered to hand-and-foot here.
The only issue is that solo play seems to be the only thing that’s allowed, even in private shows. Other popular cam sites openly cater to women, men, couples, non-binary individuals and trans content creators.
If there's even a whiff of a male in the room on MFC, your stream is in trouble.
You’d never think that an adult cam site would be staunchly against their models capturing a fantastic money shot, but Xpanded goes against the grain with their nonsensical rules. Cream team always wins because squirting is a bannable offense (as are other "degrading sex acts").
We’re not sure how Xpanded defines the word “degrading,” but there’s a reason they’re ranked #4356 while Streamate is ranked at #7 in terms of ultimate Internet popularity.
As for gambling? We'd be shocked if this has actually led to banned accounts. Getting crushed during your fifth round of video poker isn’t exactly aphrodisiacal for the viewers.
ManyVids Live is the only cam site to implement a rule that prohibits “crushing” animals during your stream. We’re not exactly sure why that needs to be said, but once you’ve worked in the industry long enough, you begin to understand the true depths of people’s unfiltered depravity.
From grasshoppers to golden retrievers, ManyVids’ rule is all-encompassing: "stop squashing animals on our site".
This one is fairly straightforward – we can understand why StripChat doesn’t want their models wearing a PornHub shirt on their live-stream. Nothing in life is free, and that includes exposure. Additionally, Guy Fawkes and other political/religious masks are prohibited for obvious reasons.
Chaturbate and most other big-name platforms don’t particularly care if you’re wearing a T-shirt that’s branded with another company’s name and logo, but controversial items (such as MAGA hats and ghost-white bedsheets with two eye holes poked out) can still get your account closed.
Last but certainly not least, the onus lies on Joystick.tv models to regularly “entertain” viewers on the stream. If you simply chat in the message box for extended periods of time without flashing your audience, you risk getting banned. Seems a bit harsh to us!
Cherry.tv has a similar rule about disrupting dialogue.
It’s weird to see a cam site that monitors how “entertaining” their models are by taking into consideration their willingness to show the goods during the stream. Usually, that’s what a private video chat is for!
If you made it to the end of this cluster****, congratulations – hopefully, we’ve imparted some helpful wisdom about the rules and regulations associated with major cam platforms. And you now understand the risks of crushing mammals live on stream.
Yes, we've listed some of these rules in jest, but don't forget the reality -- it's no joke getting your account banned.
If you've been suspended or banned for a wacky illogical reason, drop us your experiences in the comments.
