What Are The Best Months For Camming?

What Are The Best Months For Camming?

Cam models learn pretty fast that some months are better than others for earnings.

There's no exact science; no official "best earning month" for cam shows. But with enough data, we can certainly draw some conclusions about the wider trends.

As a model, it's easy to start blaming yourself for the downtimes. The instinct is to fix something. Anything! Maybe your thumbnail is wrong. Maybe the stupid algo has buried you under a pile of other models. Maybe your biggest fans (and god forbid: whales) have been snapped up by some rogue room-raiding chancer.

Before you rewrite your profile and buy an entire new wardrobe... it's worth considering seasonality.

Here at CamsRank, we've seen that cam traffic follows a remarkably consistent cycle throughout the year.

We're able to track it at a wider level through our affiliate revenue, month by month, and we've seen a recurring pattern that rears its ugly head at several points on the calendar. It's not all bad, though. There are distinctly GOOD times, too.

Statement of the obvious: Cam site audiences do not suddenly stop liking cam shows. There's a reason it's considered an 'evergreen' market with stable demand. What does change is the spending patterns of a typical punter, their routines... and crucially, how much time they spend sitting indoors on their computer/phone.

Some months are historically strong for cam models. Others, like the summer months, will require patience, creativity and some acceptance that many of your biggest fans will have other stuff on their plate.

Below we'll lay out how the cam calendar usually plays out.

Emphasis on USUALLY, because there will always be models who outperform or underperform for reasons that are impossible to predict or anticipate in advance.

Cam Site Trends By Month

January

We've lost track of how many times we've seen Reddit posts and forum threads from models hitting the panic button in early Jan.

Do not judge January by its opening week!!

In the days after Christmas, viewers are usually broke, exhausted or staring nervously at their credit-card statements waiting to see how much damage the holidays have done.

Tips during this initial slump can be miserable, and many models report that even dependable regulars will suddenly develop a noted interest in fiscal responsibility.

Don't worry though, by the middle of the month, the slump usually subsides. Work routines return and millions of people are cold, bored and staying indoors. (In the northern Hemisphere, at least!).

This is traditionally a golden combo for cam revenue.

On the supply side, January also attracts a flood of new performers inspired by New Year's resolutions and side hustle experiments.

Competition rises, but just like the gym floor... it's a different story by spring time.

February

By contrast, we've seen that February is often one of the strongest earning months of the year... despite having at least two fewer days than a typical month.

The weather is still terrible across much of the US and Europe... and that's generally a good thing for cam models. More viewers indoors = more screen time. Then you've got Valentine's Day which ushers a predictable surge of guys who are single, lonely, avoiding their partners or looking to jump on one of the many promo deals that sweep the market at this particular time.

Tip: Always make a mental note of cam site promo periods! We track them for you.

Another trend is that American tax-refund season is coming into view. Refund windfalls can put thousands of dollars into people's accounts, and, let's just say.... not everybody spends them conservatively!

March

From an affiliate perspective, we love March earnings.

It's another really strong month, and this flows through to model earnings, too.

If we had to pick the optimal combo of weather, spending power and viewer availability... March is about as good as it gets.

Those tax refunds are still flowing, evenings are still dark, and the supply side has generally normalised with less competition from new models trying to pry away your regulars.

Make the most of it while it lasts.

April

April keeps some of the momentum from the first quarter but from what we've seen, it usually marks the beginning of the slowdown (not the slowdown itself.... just the first signs of changing user habits).

The obvious explanation is that spring marks the arrival of better weather and users spending more time outdoors.

May

The seasonal shift is definitely noticeable from here.

Weekends fill with trips, weddings and god knows what else. The social schedule fills out and viewers who spent a chunk of winter at home are suddenly less active on the major cam platforms.

Key point though: it's not that traffic vanishes overnight. It just softens.

For many models reading this, the natural variation in earnings may not even be distinguishable because you're dealing at the micro-level, not the macro-level.

June

The arrival of June marks the beginning of the slowest period for many cam models.

And it's no surprise that many cam sites will run "Start of Summer" promos to try and offset some of the natural behavioural change as users start spending more and more time outdoors.

There are a ton of reasons for the slowdown:

  • People start travelling. or saving for their summer breaks.

  • The kids are either finishing school or dealing with much busier schedules.

  • Festivals and sport hijack consumer interest

  • Disposable income has MANY new direct competitors

The result is that many rooms often become quieter and earnings are not as consistently reliable as they are in Q1 or Q4. This is only something we can observe at the industry-wide level. It might not affect YOUR earnings! And even talking in averages, some days will still perform really well.

This year, we observed a crap ton of fallout from models complaining about the World Cup. And yes, large sports tournaments can definitely make the problem worse.

Once again, cam platforms are well drilled in this department, hence the equally absurd number of World Cup promos and competitions that we saw earlier this year,

BongaCams had a raft of World Cup themed promos to maximise summer engagement

July

Usually the weakest period of the year.

The factors we've already discussed - long evenings, holidays, outdoor events and family commitments - all combine to stress-test camming earnings in a way that can really mess with a model's mind.

If you are new model just starting out during this period, take particular note! You are in at the deep end.

On the other side of the coin, many of the world's top performing cam models aren't particularly affected by this summer slowdown because they aren't actually there to work in the first place. They're off enjoying summer!

Perk of the job, right?

So... if you've had a great year... why not enjoy your spoils?!

August

Our own data suggests that while US cam site earnings in August are fairly consistent with July, there is a major drop-off in the European market around this time.

That is probably because of the condensed summer holidays during Europe. Much of the continent crams travel into the weeks of August.

EU-based models might want to consider experimenting with the time of their shows, or attempting to capture traffic from North America or Asia.

September

Many models breathe a massive sigh of relief as August rolls into September.

And many viewers are breathing the same sigh of relief but for different reasons: "Thank god, the kids are back to school..."

While the release of the pressure valve certainly helps to produce an uptick in time spent on cam sites, it doesn't always lead to the same uptick in spending.

There are several possible reasons for this, but it's likely to do with users getting back to the grind with drained bank accounts, recent school expenses and that dreaded sense that they should "behave responsibly" for a little while to get things back on track.

The good news is that September is generally seen as the "bridge" between the dreaded summer slowdown and the profitable final stretch of the year.

Look out for 'End of Summer' promo deals, which often mark the transition... and from there, it's full speed ahead and time to make some serious bank!

October

By October, many models report that their room traffic is moving in the right direction again.

Evenings darken and viewers return to their indoor habits, making it the start of the "earning season".

You've also got Halloween - one of the easiest promotional opportunities in the entire cam calendar.

This is one of the times of the year when you can unleash your creative juices. Costumes are obviously extremely popular. But themed goals also work, while some models will give their studios/setups a spooky makeover.

Halloween itself can be a really solid period for cam earnings.

November

November is a funny month. Based on the trends we've observed, you'd expect longer nights and harsher weather to act as a driver of cam site spend.

And to an extent, it does.

But not always.

Our data suggests it's actually the weakest Q4 month for cam models.

November comes with a ton of disruption around Thanksgiving and Black Friday. The lucrative US audience is getting absolutely blasted with ads at this time of year. Many punters that would usually buy private cam2cam shows are busy with travel, family gatherings and never-ending retail sales. So the money that might normally reach cam sites could be disappearing in one of many directions.

December

December is a tale of two halves.

Well, three weeks vs one week.

Before Christmas and post.

The period between Christmas Day and New Year is legendary for cam sites; it's one of the busiest stretches of the year. You've got punters that are off work and/or sick to death of time with their families. Many of them are in a festive mood and the tips can stack up fast.

Most of the major platforms post serious numbers in this period - and models do, too, IF they can bring themselves to get back to the grind.

The earlier part of the month is a different story.

People are much busier - buying presents, or stacked with work parties, or drowning in the never ending list of stuff to get done before Christmas.

The last act of the year, New Year's Eve, is typically a complete write-off.

Viewers and models alike are often busy in those final hours, making for a serious drop-off in cam site action - but it only lasts for a few hours, before we go all over again.

Micro Seasonality

Seasonality matters for cam models, but your results are also affected by the day of the week.

One curious quirk is that weekday evenings and Sunday nights will often outperform Fridays and Saturdays, and this is particularly the case when targeting American viewers.

(Your whales may have more time at the weekend, but they also have more places to go.)

We also see that pay cycles can create extra flux in spending habits. US spending will nudge up around the 1st and 15th, but UK and European viewers tend to be much more generous around the end of the month (the time most associated with Pay Day).

You Can't Judge Your Cam Career By A Single Week

This is the golden rule.

A miserable week of earnings in July might ruffle your feathers, but it says very little about your success (or failure) as a cam model.

Camming needs to be assessed, ideally, across several months of hard work. The earnings are far too 'bumpy' for a model to stay sane if she's judging every day on the night before.

Earn and save aggressively during the boom times, and accept that it's going to be softer traffic when the weather improves or a major sporting event is ongoing.

Sometimes the answer is just patience... and turning another page on the calendar.
