Here we take a look at the typical age breakdown on cam sites, plus some platforms that do an excellent job of showcasing their experienced models.

The Distribution Of Older Models On Major Cam Platforms

The age filter is one of the most commonly used tags on cam platforms.

Pick any cam site, check the navigation menu and Age will be sitting there. Some sites (like Chaturbate) let you set a specific age range to filter their database, while others (like Streamate) use a category system -- Teen, 20s, 30s, 40s, Mature and so on...

By using aggregator tools, we can pool the active models from all the major cam sites and get an accurate picture of how many models are online in each age range.

Here's a breakdown of the ages we found, using LemonCams, which curates total models online from 16 different platforms:

Obviously, the definition of a 'mature' model is subjective.

40 probably doesn't seem very old if you're tearing up cam sites in your sixties. But we think it's fair to say that at least 10% of models would be considered 'mature performers'.

10% of a very big number (there were 22660 models online) is a lot of choice.

Why would a model mark herself as 99-years-old?

From what we were able to ascertain, this became a trend for models who didn't want to disclose their actual ages. The trend caught on even more when models realised they could gain extra eyeballs from users actively searching for older models.

Chaturbate has since rolled out a precise age targeting filter which lets users specify an exact age range to filter the models by. This has reduced spam and made the site much more usable for anybody looking to uncover the hottest mature live streams.

Chaturbate isn't the only site to score highly in our mature rankings.

Near the bottom of our list you will find MyFreeCams (3) -- a great freemium cam site, no doubt, but one with a noticeable bias towards younger models aged 18-25.

To put it simply: some platforms do a much better job of marketing their services to older models. This can be tied to the onboarding experience or the internal 'camscore' system that decides which models get the best digital real-estate on the homepage.

We decided to seek out some perspective from models.

How do older performers feel about competing in an industry where the competition is so youthful and beautiful?

What Draws Older Models to Camming?

We spoke to Tori, a 46-year-old cam model from NYC. We wanted to know about the challenges of attracting clients in a market where the models are young, extremely good looking and willing to do just about anything on cam.

Surely it's a tough market to crack?

"I actually think it's the opposite," she said. "The older I get, the less competition there is, and the easier it is to make money. A lot of my regular clients.... they don't want to chat with young girls. I mean, I'm sure they like to watch them. But to connect on an intimate level, many guys prefer women closer in age. And a lot of younger guys love the novelty of an older model. So there's plenty of customers."

We asked Tori what percentage of her clients are older guys compared to younger guys.

"Oh don't get me wrong, when I say regular clients... it's mostly the older guys who keep coming back [as repeat customers]. But the majority of private shows I do are actually paid for by younger men."

It certainly tallies with the feedback we get from our mature cam site rankings. These models are incredibly popular with guys in their 20s.

"Look, you can't ignore that you've been tagged under MILF or Mature lol. These guys are drawn into the fantasy. A lot of them want to roleplay. Teachers, step moms... that kind of thing. The older guys are less fantasy driven. They just want to feel a connection. A conversation might spill in to three separate chat sessions."

It's not all sunshine and roses though. Older models often have to contend with an outside factor that doesn't affect a performer in her early 20s...

"By far the biggest issue is balancing my work with teenage kids." Tori explains. "My oldest is 14 and she knows what I do for a living. I was terrified to raise the subject... show me a model mom who isn't? But she was incredibly understanding. It doesn't change the basic logistics though. A house full of raging hormones and doors flying open puts B-I-G strain on my working hours."

Many models enter the industry without understanding the full impact on family and loved ones, especially when it might not be felt until a distant date in the future. These factors are more pressing for older performers, especially if balancing a cam model career with the responsibilities of Mom.

There are other SW job choices, but they come with their own challenges.

For many mature models, camming is just a side hustle compared to the real big business: OnlyFans.

Tori hinted at why: "The hardest part of the actual camming is keeping my energy levels high. It's like a factory line of very specific requests. A customer can tell when you're tired and looking at the clock. I know several models my age who have branched in to OF for the kinder hours. You get much more control over your schedule and with the right strategy you don't have to be on camera to make much MUCH more money."

So why not just do OnlyFans?

There are, after all, endless stories of older models making tens of thousands from lusty subscribers.

"It's a different skill set, for sure. Self promotion is a big thing for OF. I think with experience us so-called mature ladies find it pretty easy to get the job done on cam sites without having to break a sweat. I will probably switch to OF eventually. But for now I know what works and I'm sticking to it."

Tori knows how to work it, and a legion of viewers are happy to pay for it.

While camming is seen as a young model's game, there's a thriving community of mature performers who do just fine.
