SecretFriends Review

SecretFriends has been around since 2019, but this cam site has kept a relatively low profile until recently when it was acquired by Adult Prime.

In fact, if we look at the news section of SecretFriends.com, they've only just started to publish posts and updates since March 2024. 

They've flown under the radar for a few years: but is that for better or for worse? We're never afraid of suggesting smaller platforms if they're worth your attention, so the question is whether Secret Friends is capable of holding a candle to the biggest cam platforms in the game.

And the answer is... probably not yet.

Model Selection

Since numbers really matter for camming platforms, it's important for newer players to the game to hit the ground running with a decent supply of performers. At the time of writing, Secret Friends had a total of 51 camgirls online. 

Sadly, this ranks it among the weakest services we've visited in terms of stream availability: even when we checked in 12 hours later, the numbers weren't much better, with 67 options available. There is at least some good news: because of the source location of camgirls, there are periods when this platform is busy.

Annoyingly, the platform has an opt-in feature for countries, and a lot of models don't bother to give their data, so getting exact figures is difficult. That said, most of the performers here are from eastern Europe, with a large concentration of Latvian camgirls being of particular note. We also found Russian, Ukrainian and Polish performers here - we've seen this type of focus on eastern European camgirls before, but the concentration of Latvian performers is novel.

Outside of Europe, there's a small concentration of Colombian camgirls: most platforms have them, and per capita, more camgirls are from Colombia than anywhere else in the world. Sadly, using the search feature to seek countries isn't possible: typing in 'Latvia' didn't return any results, nor did any other country input.

Female Performers

Unlike other camming services where men, women and trans performers are allowed, SecretFriends appears to be almost completely focused on women. Camgirls here tend to have rooms and environments that suggest they do stream as a full-time job - good lighting, quality camera setups, wireless keyboards and that type of thing. It's not the most professional destination we've seen, but it's definitely above average.

There are a few filters here that you can utilize, but they're organized into simple 'top tags' and it's pretty visually messy. Take a look:

It's not obvious how recently a camgirl has to have been online for their tags to appear, but the tag frequency gives us a little insight into the ethnic breakdown on the platform: just 22 Asian, 38 ebony and 180 Latina tags. 

Given that there are at least 3,500 camgirls displayed here (brunette, blonde and redhead figured combined), ethnic variety, aside from the Colombian girls, is fairly limited. That's great if you love white chicks, but for exotic camgirl fans, it's sub-optimal to say the very least.

Tag utility seems relatively underutilized in general too: just 2 squirting and 3 foot fetish cammers? It's also not clear what the difference is between mature, MILF and cougar. For us, these are all the same thing.

Male Performers

SecretFriends doesn't allow any male performers on the platform in any capacity.

Trans Performers

From the tag cloud above, we can see that there are only 9 performers in the trans category: there's also no dedicated area on the site for them, aside from this tag. Remember that appearing in the tag category doesn't mean you're online: in fact, all of the shemales here were offline when we visited. Judging by their profiles and preview images, these T-girls are incredibly sexy, but since there's not a single one online, we cannot recommend SecretFriends.com as a place to go for trans cams.

Couples

Traditional male/female couples don't stream on Secret Friends, but it would appear as if there are a few lesbian streams that you can check out. By "a few", we mean that there was one online and a couple more we noticed in the offline archives. This is far below standard and just line trans cams, we cannot recommend Secret Friends if you're interested in streams involving more than one person.

Live Shows

Like all cam sites, there's a distinction here between free public shows, private sessions and other types of engagements. 

In terms of the stuff you can get for free here: it's not stellar. Some girls are naked, but typically teasing and looking to solicit private viewings. Additionally, if you use the site for too long without creating an account, it will force you to sign up.

Free Public Chat

Similar to what you'll find on other cam2cam platforms, the free shows here extend to mini-teasers. The setup is more like what you'll find on LiveJasmin and Streamate: the girls aren't giving it all away for free, and instead, they're killing time, dancing around, playing with their phones and waiting for someone to come along and take them into a private show.

In some instances, you'll be presented with the above: a requirement to 'verify' before you can look at a specific cam feed. 

However, if we checked the model's profile using an incognito browser window, her stream was visible to us - no restrictions. We dislike this practice. Note that 'verify to enter' refers to charging your account with money instead of just verifying your email: it's pretty egregious.

Camgirls are almost always in free public mode if they're not in a private or VIP show. A few were topless, although there was no active masturbation or toy usage: we don't think SecretFriends.com is great for users who won't spend money.

Private Shows

This is very much the bread and butter of SecretFriends - if you've got cash to burn, this is your way in. You'll pay credits to watch a performer on a per-minute basis and the girls get to set their rates for a private show. Note that prices are displayed just above the 'go private' link, and there's no confirmation before you're switched through.

Rates at SecretFriends seem to be only divisible by 1: this means that privates are typically set at a rate of 2 or 3 credits per minute. Credits are $1 each, and almost all of the shows were at 2, so you're paying $2 per minute. Pretty decent value.

We dislike platforms that force performers into just a few price points: maybe a camgirl wants to stream for $1.75 per minute, or $2.50 - doesn't appear to be possible on SecretFriends, which is bad for everyone.

Note that others can spy on your private shows if they want: they won't be able to communicate with the performer, but for 1 credit ($1) per minute, they can see and hear what's going on.

VIP Shows

This costs 1 credit more per minute, so you're paying either $3 or $4 depending on the model, but in most instances, it's $3. Note that there are basically no extra benefits to VIP shows, aside from the fact that no one else can spy on what you're doing. 

Again: we dislike the fixed rate price bump - some camgirls might prefer VIP and not charge extra, whereas others might be willing to do it at a slightly lower price.

Cam to cam is available for both standard private and VIP shows. The prompt will only appear once the private performance begins, as shown above.

Peek on Private

If the performer you're watching is in a standard private show, you can pay $1 per minute to watch them. You cannot type, you cannot activate toys or do anything else, except watch (audio will be muted). The chat box also won't appear.

Special Performances

From time to time, Secret Friends will host a special performance with a particular camgirl. They'll advertise these way ahead of time too - Gina Gerson was set to put on a nylon-themed show in 5 days, but the header section of the index page nudged you toward putting on a notification on (you'll get a reminder 30 minutes before it happens) so you don't miss the action.

There are free events that SecretFriends puts on every two hours with regular streamers too. These often feature nudity and masturbation, but that's not always guaranteed. For some reason, they have a thumbs-up button you can press, as well as way too much text about how it works.

Liking an event does literally nothing, so we're not sure why there are caveats here.

Stream Quality

Some platforms make it impossible to check for objective quality, and that appears to be the case with SecretFriends. 

The platform utilizes a one-size-fits-all approach to displaying streams and you have no control over what the resolution, or bitrate, is. We dislike this, and believe that streaming platforms should offer at least two, if not more, options for various sizes.

Although we weren't able to extract bitrates, we were able to extract resolutions. 

Of the 20 shows we tested, 16 were running at 720p (1280 x 720 pixels), with 2 shows at 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels) and, sadly, two at 360p (640 x 360 pixels). Some shows were visibly better than others in terms of quality, meaning quite a variety of bitrates. We'd estimate between 1.5 Mb/s and 2.5 Mb/s on average.

The above example is the best case scenario we came across: pretty crisp, but on the balance of averages, SecretFriends fell behind what we're used to seeing on the bigger cam platforms out there. 

We'd like to see them make 1080p a priority, as well as support 50 or even 60 FPS.

Site Design

Things could be a lot better: filtering is poor, and an approach taken by most rivals is superior to what SecretFriends.com does. 

Right now, it's not possible to organize performers based on their country of origin, language spoken or age. There are some categories that help, such as teen and mature, but since some camgirls are tagged with MILF or cougar instead - you're clearing going to miss some no matter what option you go with.

Additionally, SecretFriends displays images of camgirls in preview panes instead of a live look at the show. You can run your mouse over a thumbnail to see a preview, but it takes a long time to load and disappears as soon as you remove your cursor. 

SecretFriends really needs to look at how Chaturbate, BongaCams and other big ticket platforms organize things. There's nothing wrong with copying format and structure: especially when it works.

On the plus side, you can change the size of preview panes, enable notifications for when your favorite performer comes online, send private messages and even attach images. You're not guaranteed to get a reply, but at least the functionality is there. Secret Friends also has a collection of live cam recordings you can purchase with credits - more on that later.

Live Chat UX

It's not bad, but it's not good either. There are features missing here: things that would make the experience a hell of a lot better for everyone involved. The lack of quality selection is an obvious concern, but the chat area is also sinfully unattractive. 

It's possible to send messages in an encrypted fashion to the model, but it shows in the public chat area as a 'whisper', so you end up with situations like this one:

This is completely useless information and clogs up the screen. No other site does this in the camming space, and put it this way, we don't think they're the ones in the wrong.

Additionally, when you take a model into private or VIP, the button instantly starts the session: there's no buffer to double-check, or see what extras are available and so on. In our opinion, it should take two clicks to confirm you're spending any amount of money. This would also imply that models cannot deny a request for private, which in most instances they wouldn't want to, but surely it's better to give them an option.

Mobile UX

Here's how Secret Friends' homepage looks on an iPhone 15:

Six previews that are displayed neatly, and a further two hidden behind a signup prompt: not bad. If we were being nit-picky, there's some empty space at the top that could be scrubbed so that all of the eight previews are clear: right now, the bottom two are cut off, and while that will depend on what mobile you're using, it seems reasonable to ask for maximal screen space devoted to live camgirl panes.

SecretFriends seems to have a hybrid approach to panes: some are live snapshots, others are self-supplied images. Most appear to be live: this is our preferred display style.

The default viewing settings for cam shows are good. It renders shows vertically, but allows you to pan left and right, so if the action isn't dead center, you can still get a good look at what's going on. Turning your phone sideways is okay, but we had issues with making the stream fullscreen. 

Chat is disabled by default and unless you have an account, you'll get about 15 seconds of free viewing before you're encouraged to sign up.

Extra Features

Our above categories don't cover all features that cam platforms have, so let's go through what else you might find on Secret Friends.

Interactive Sex Toys

Toys are available on quite a few adult cam streams, but most in free chat don't have them 'plugged in', so to speak. 

You'll often have to ask for it to be added to the stream experience and then you can tip to get the party started. Like many rival services, SecretFriends suffers greatly in the toy activation space because the minimum amount you can contribute in 1 credit, which is equal to 1 USD.

In our experience, sites that have lower thresholds for toy activation do a lot better when it comes to getting viewers involved. These devices have a huge range of available outputs, so you really inhibit the market on both sides when you force activation to the nearest dollar. 

The quickest and easiest solution is to just turn all tokens into dollar-like figures: if I want to donate 0.1 tokens, I should be able to. The site also lacks a dedicated interface for tip inputs and outputs: it's either displayed on the stream or a complete guessing game.

Live Cam Recordings

Under the 'recordings' tab, you'll find a number of shows that you can go back and watch for a fee. 

A lot of these had an event tag, which are videos of the big ticket events they host every so often. Prices are incredibly varied here: a pornstar called Antonia Sainz performed yesterday for 60 minutes and it costs 2 credits to go back and see what happened: another performer had 43 minutes of entertainment for 70 credits. 

We're totally down for girls setting their own rates, but $70 for a cam show VOD? 

Inflation has been bad, but not that bad!

We're really quite impressed at the design of the recording area. The resolution was lossless, you're given 10 seconds for free and there are some screencaps to give you an idea of what transpires. 

A few of the camgirls also opt to have free scenes for you to watch, so that's really neat. Truth be told, this is one of the best marketplaces on a cam platform that we've seen from a design and accessibility perspective.

Events

About a dozen times per day, SecretFriends has free events. 

These are live shows that you don't have to pay for and that stay public. This is your best shot if you want to activate toys - or if you just want to enjoy a webcam stream that doesn't cost you a penny. They do host pornstars every few weeks: Antonia Sainz as shown above has over 100 million views on PornHub and Gina Gerson with 186k followers on Instagram is due to stream in a few days. 

Others over the years have included Angel Wicky, Brianna Bella and Elin Flame.

Action-to-Spend

We'd say that on the whole, Secret Friends is halfway between a heavily-free service such as Chaturbate and a pay-to-play spot, such as Streamate. 

Firstly, you've got the free events as above, where girls go the full distance and need no prompting to do so. Second, there are the clips that you can grab from previous shows for free or, in many instances, at a rock-bottom price. Then you've got a few default free chat ladies that might masturbate if enough people are watching.

We'd stress that this isn't a paradise for those without a credit card: especially since a lot of streams require a 'verification' and that includes at least one payment, with a minimum charge amount of 10 USD. You're prompted quite often to sign up without an account, and then prompted again to add credits.

Most adult camming platforms go one way or the other: Secret Friends is slap bang in the middle.

That said, if you're happy to pay for private shows, the rates here are pretty reasonable -- most streams work out to around $2 per minute.

Payment Options

You'll pay for your credits in USD, regardless of where you are in the world. SecretFriends uses a third-party biller that doesn't handle currency conversion for you: this is our preferred method, since with services like Wise, you can get pretty close to the mid-market rate and avoid paying 3-5% more than you ought to.

Here are some example credit packages:

• 100 credits for $100
• 275 credits for $250
• 560 credits for $500

There's a small incentive to add a lot of credits to your account at once, but not enough that you'll feel bad if you just chuck 10 bucks onto your account.

Secret Friends offers the following payment methods:

• Credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Maestro)
• iDEAL (For Dutch users only)
• PayPal
• Alternative cards (Discover, JCB, Diners Club)

Major cards are billed via VXS Bill, alternatives are billed via Segpay. We'd like for them to offer cryptocurrency as an option: many rival services do, and it's becoming popular for cam enthusiasts that prefer a little more anonymity when making adult purchases.

Refund Policy

There's a refund clause in their Terms & Conditions, but it doesn't really specify under what circumstances they'll be granted. Based on experience, you won't get money back that you've already spent - this is made clear when you buy recordings. However, they might refund credit purchases.

One major problem regarding credits that we spotted in the T&Cs was this:

Any credits bought through our system have to be spend within a 3 month period. After 3 months the credits are no longer valid and can not be used anymore.

Time limits are questionable, but they're really questionable when they're just 3 months in length. 

We don't know of any other platform that has this policy to begin with, let alone just 90 days to get through your stock. It's a senseless policy that disadvantages the user: it should be removed.

Discreet Billing

When we made a purchase, here's what our bank reported to us:

When we Googled the billing charge, a huge number of results came up - all either calling the charges a scam or mentioning that they were linked to adult entertainment. Although it doesn't immediately trigger alarm bells, a spouse with a search engine wouldn't struggle to work out what the payment was for.

SecretFriends' billing is only semi-discreet.

We've covered a lot of things that could be improved at the platform level that are separate to the discussion of camgirl numbers. 

It shouldn't surprise anyone that the more girls you have, the better, and live sex cam fans really want as many options as possible. We can forgive low numbers when the site is great - but SecretFriends is currently just kinda mid. 

A few key details make it hard to recommend as a priority over our top picks:

Expiring tokens, poor toy activation integration, limited free shows and one of the most questionable chat designs we've ever seen all work against the positives - but there are some positives. The recording section is gold standard in the space, plus they work with quite a few pornstars to bring high quality content on a regular basis.

SecretFriends is currently a middle-of-the-pack cam site.
