Adult Webcam Industry Statistics: Trends & Analysis [2024] featured image

The adult cam industry is booming— bigger than ever and growing fast.

With billions in revenue and millions of viewers tuning in every day, it's hard to get a true sense of the industry's size. Many of the major players are highly secretive with their true numbers and profits. We've put together these statistics using the best data we have available.

Here’s a deep dive into the numbers, the trends, and what’s really happening behind the camera.

Adult Cam Industry Statistics

Mega Money Industry: According to recent estimates from industry insiders, the adult camming industry is worth up to $5.5 billion annually. This represents 175% growth from the industry's reported value in 2016 ($2 Billion).

Growth in Popularity: The number of webcam models has increased significantly since 2018, with a reported 30% increase in the number of active performers on major platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic alone. Much of this growth has happened outside North America.

User Engagement: The adult webcam industry sees over 1.1 billion visits each month across major platforms like Chaturbate, LiveJasmin, and StripChat. These users spend an average of 12.5 minutes per session, indicating high engagement levels.

Most Visited Sites: According to SEMRush, Chaturbate is the most-visited cam site in 2024 with an average of 432 million monthly visits. StripChat follows in second place with an average of 374 million monthly visits. Both operate the same business model as freemium cam sites.

Earning Potential: According to a model survey by ReadySetCam, the average webcam model earns $1,043 per week from an 18-hour work week. The top-earning streamers in the United States earn as much as $6,000 per week. The earning potential of beginners is significantly lower, with many earning as little as $100 per week.

Average Earnings Per Hour: According to the same survey, the average cam model earns $58.77 per hour spent broadcasting. The biggest determinator of earning potential is experience, with established models w/ 5 years experience averaging $103 per hour.

Where Are Cam Models From?

We took three snapshots of the number of models online in each country across all major adult webcam platforms, eight hours apart (3pm, 11pm, 7am - all GMT).

  • Colombia has the most webcam models of any country with a staggering 43.75% of all active models online.
  • United States has the second most models with 17.84%.
  • Germany has the most cam models in Europe with an average 756 performers online.
  • The only other country in Europe with half as many models as Germany is Romania - averaging 429.
  • South Africa has the most models in Africa with an average 190 performers online.
  • Philippines has the most models in Asia with an average 302 performers online.
  • China only has 0.23% of the total webcam models despite 17.7% of the global population.

Something that caught our eye...

Historically, Russia has been the largest provider of cam models in Europe. We were very surprised to see it so far down the table.

It seems highly likely that the war in Ukraine has led to fewer Russian models disclosing their actual nationality in public profiles.

What Is The Average Age Of Cam Models?

We used the cam aggregator LemonCams to analyse the average age of models online (where disclosed) across 16 different platforms.

  • In total, 74.8% of active broadcasting models were aged between 18 to 30.
  • 10% of models fell in to the 'Mature' category (40+).
  • It was not possible to get an exact age breakdown, but from the thousands of streams we sampled, over 50% of models were aged under 25.
Age Range Models Online Percentage
18-19 3876 17.1%
20-30 13074 57.7%
31-40 3442 15.2%
40+ 2268 10%

One major caveat here is that models self-report their ages. There is no 'verification'. It is commonplace for models to overstate or understate their age to maximise inbound traffic from various tags (depending on which site they are using).

Have Your Say

lady phenom

Can we talk about how nearly half the users just lurk and never tip 😂 Y'all are killing the vibe. Us models are putting in hours and dealing with some real creeps and half the viewers just sit there quietly like they’re watching some random Netflix crap for free. It’s called camming not streaming guys, I promise we don't bite

shenanigans

Oh trust me, the Russians are still out there in force. Might not be as many models listed from Russia, but only because they're blending in with those from other countries. It's better for tips.

Plenty of times I've gone pvt with 'American' models only to find they have the weirdest of accents (and the curtains closed lol).
